Who we are

SenseCalc is an independent UK resource offering free calculators for employment, tax, retirement, legal and property questions. Content is produced and reviewed by the SenseCalc Editorial Team. We are not affiliated with HMRC, any lender, insurer or law firm, and no calculator result on this site is financial, legal or tax advice.

Where our figures come from

Every rate, threshold and statutory figure used on this site is taken from primary official sources, including:

• GOV.UK and HMRC guidance for tax, National Insurance, statutory pay, student loans and allowances
• The Low Pay Commission for National Minimum and Living Wage rates
• HM Land Registry official fee scales for registration fees
• The Judicial College Guidelines for personal injury compensation brackets
• The Employment Rights (Increase of Limits) Order for tribunal caps
• Equity Release Council product standards for later-life lending

Where a figure is an estimate or market average (for example, equity release interest rates or solicitor fees) the page says so explicitly rather than presenting it as a statutory rate.

How often we update

UK tax and employment rates change on 6 April each year, with some wage rates changing from 1 April. We review every calculator and rate table at each April change, and update pages whenever an in-year change is announced (for example, a Budget measure with immediate effect). Each calculator page carries its last-updated date, and our central rates file is the single source of truth for every calculator on the site, so one verified update corrects all pages that use it.

How our calculators work

Each calculator implements the published statutory formula for its topic, with the working shown on the page: the formula, a worked example with real numbers, and a band-by-band or phase-by-phase breakdown of the result. Where simplifications exist (for example, company car benefit percentages by CO2 band), the page states what has been simplified. We deliberately show our working so you can check any result by hand.

Independence and advertising

SenseCalc is free to use. If the site carries advertising in future, advertisers will have no influence over calculator logic, rates, or editorial content, and any advertising cookies will only load with consent as described in our privacy policy. We do not accept paid placements inside calculation results.

Reporting an error

Accuracy is the whole point of this site. If you believe any figure, rate or calculation is wrong or out of date, please tell us via the contact page and we will investigate and correct it. Verified corrections are applied to the central rates file so every affected page is fixed at once.
